Chem-E-Competition
The Chem-E-Car Competition is an annual competition hosted by the annual American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). The goal of the event is to construct a Shoe-box sized car, and compete with this at the competition. Universities and Colleges participate in this with other North American and international teams.

Competition Rules
- In order to participate in the Chem-E-Car Competition, your University team must have registered in the AIChE Registration form by February 19th. If there is any confusion regarding this, please contact us for assistance.
- Individual teams will compete on two days. On Friday, April 30th, the Safety Inspection will take place. On Saturday, May 1st, the Poster and Performance Competition will take place.
- Key Dates
- March 27th, 2021
- EDP’s are due. You will receive more information on where to submit your EDP’s.
- Each University or College will need to start coordinating with their Department regarding the competition
- Each University or College is responsible for recruiting on On-Site safety judge who will be present at the competition.
- Each University or College is responsible for abiding by and following the COVID-19 guidelines listed at their school.

- EDP’s will be returned.
- All necessary safety equipment for the competition should be acquired
- Video participant (responsible for transmitting the activities on competition day) must be identified
- Video transmission details (internet access and devices) should be finalized.

- Finalized EDP’s need to be submitted. More details on how to submit this will be sent out at a later time.
- Onsite safety checklist confirmed

- Safety inspection occurs over Zoom with Safety Coordinator and other safety inspectors.
- Saturday, May 1st, 2021
- Live Poster Presentations with Judges
- Competition Day
- In order to compete, the Chem-E-Car faculty advisor and appointed Onsite Safety Judge must be present. They will follow up on any flagged issues (marked by the Regional Safety Coordinators).
- All teams will connect via a zoom call (hosted through Pathable) coordinated by Host Universities or AIChE Staff using camera guidelines provided by AIChE
- Each team will be notified of the distance and run order 1 hour before start time. Each team will participate in two rounds of runs with a 15 minute break in-between each round.
- Each team will be given a run time of 2 minutes.
- After both rounds, scores will be compiled and winners will be announced shortly after.
- Teams will be responsible for cleaning up their competition area and appropriate disposal of waste chemicals on their campus.
